Unemployment Rate for Ann Arbor Hits 6.9% in July by EmploymentCrossing.com
The Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth announced that the unemployment rate for Ann Arbor in July was 6.9%. Unfortunately, this reflects a downward trend, as the unemployment rate in June was at 6.3%.
According to the state, the increase in the unemployment rate is largely because there were 300 fewer construction jobs and 1,800 fewer manufacturing jobs as compared to July 2007. In July 2007, the unemployment rate was remarkably lower at 5.6%.
The unemployment rate approximately 30 miles away from Ann Arbor was slightly lower in July at 6.8%. However, in June that area had a shocking 7.7% unemployment rate.
Biotechnology is one of the fastest growing and most promising professional fields. The reason biotech jobs are growing at an exponential rate is that mankind has reached a crossroads of sorts. Technology has the potential to make the human condition fundamentally different from what it has been in the past. Biotech job prospects are in abundance now and will only increase in abundance as humanity seeks to alter its circumstances by modifying foods, environments, animals, and even the human genome.
The biotech industry is heating up in Florida. The biotechnology cluster in Palm Beach, Florida, is growing to rival leading biotech job market areas like California, Colorado, and Boston. Many biotech jobs can be found here and there will be many more in the near future.
According to Brenda Workman, Director of Business Retention for Enterprise Florida Inc., the state’s leading economic development organization, ''With the location of world-class life sciences research institutions, Florida is poised to become a major market for the life sciences industry.
Silicon Valley Loses Jobs in July; California Unemployment Rate Rises to 7.3%; EmploymentCrossing Unperturbed
Pasadena, CA — Silicon Valley is facing a rare occurrence as the region has suffered its first yearly job loss since July of 2004, thanks in large part to the bursting of the housing bubble. In the one-year period ending in July, the high-tech mecca lost 1,400 jobs, or 0.2%, marking its first decline in four years. Meanwhile, California’s overall jobless rate crept to 7.3% in the month of July, while the so-called misery index for the state, which refers to the rate of unemployment combined with the rate of inflation, topped 12%. Nonetheless, EmploymentCrossing’s figures give good cause to be untroubled by the reported depletion of jobs in California.
